2017 Netflix Reviews

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
First and foremost, 2017 was a golden year for Netflix. The company is definitely on an upward trajectory with all their original shows and movies. Here's a compiled review of some of the things I binge watched during 2017.

Hart of Dixie -- A tad old but still great. Based on a doctor who moves to a small town in Alabama to take over her deceased father's practice, the show takes a guess at the Southern small town lifestyle. Although the accents are a tad exaggerated, the storyline is easy to follow and the characters are quite engaging. If you like cheesy sitcoms, check this show out.

Master of None -- Shoutout to Aziz Ansari for changing the game for POCs!! This show is soooo funny and tackles tons of social issues flawlessly. His character, Dev, is the perfect protagonist for illustrating how to deal with society as a person of color. With a touch of laughter, seriousness, and love, this show captures succinctly what life is like as a person of color in a world that picks and chooses when they love you or hate you.

She's Gotta Have It -- Honestly, this show is just interesting. The protagonist acts much like a foil character to the characters surrounding her. The plot is disjointed and you find yourself questioning what happened at the end of it all. However, it offers some cool talking points so you could check it out if you please.

Stranger Things -- Simply amazing. Hot take: Season 2 is way better than season 1. I'm not a big fan of science fiction but this show is one of a kind. With a touch back to simpler times, it compliments the complications of the "upside down." The novelty, mystery, and wonder of this world perfectly foils to the high waisted jeans and bowl cuts. In an attempt to not spoil anything, I will leave this by saying that Stranger Things is worth all of the hype.

Dear White People -- Although, this show is great and touches upon some interesting topics, I personally think that it did not push the envelope enough. Sure, an Ivy League with racial issues, it just seems a little basic and the conflicts within the show are a tad predictable. However, I am hoping that Season 2 will push the envelope more as this world has become more and more complicated. P.S. I love Logan Browning so no hate here

Big Mouth -- HAHAHAHAH this show is insane but everyone needs to watch it for the obscenity of it all. I love the gross comedy and the show offers some much needed comic relief. If you just want to unwind completely, spend some time checking this show out. It's a mix between the grotesqueness of Sausage Party and an ode to adolescence.

Atypical -- I personally loved this show. The main character has Asperger's, a disorder placed on the autism spectrum. I honestly learned a lot from watching this show. As a proud supporter of trying to understand or at least have a base level of knowledge over a variety of topics, I think everyone needs to watch this just to get more insight into how differently autistic people go through the world. However, that is not all that the show is about, the supportive characters offer an interesting plot and the show is just a really good watch. Well done, Netflix.

I will now leave you with some of my favorite shows: Scandal, Grey's Anatomy, Jane the Virgin, 90210. Let me know what you think! Comment if you've checked any of these shows out and want to offer some feedback yourself.
